Lambeth Events Strategy

New events strategy

The Friends spoke at the Overview and Strategy Committee to ask about the consultation on the new Events Strategy. We asked for evidence-led decision making. This should not use commercially funded technical reports to make claims about the resilience of the park which can be seen to be wrong. The evidence should include a proper survey of park use - who uses it when for what and in what numbers. Without this basic information, decisions aiming to balance competing uses in the park are just guesses.

Commercial development in the park

Lambeth Council has has invited commercial bids for two significant areas of the park; the Redgra area and the Bowling Green. We expect to have an opportunity to understand the status of these proposals which were initiated by the previous administration.

Our starting point is that no open space in this small historic urban park should be enclosed and particularly not for private use. We are hopeful that the new administration's manifesto promise to stop the privatisation of public space will prevail.
