Planting Trees for Brockwell Park's Future
Dedicate a tree to someone special, mark an important occasion, remember a loved one, or simply give something lasting back to the park.
Brockwell Park's trees are one of its greatest treasures, but tree cover remains relatively low and many mature trees are under increasing pressure from extreme weather, hot summers and the demands placed on the park. Planting new trees is essential to protecting its biodiversity, providing shade and wildlife habitats, and helping the park adapt to a changing climate.
Through our tree donation programme, Friends of Brockwell Park works with Lambeth Council to bring new trees to the park, supported by donations from local people. Whether you choose to dedicate a tree in memory of someone special, celebrate an important occasion or simply give something back to the park you love, each tree is a lasting contribution to Brockwell Park's future.
Helping the next generation of trees take root
Trees are essential to Brockwell Park's character, beauty and biodiversity. They provide food and shelter for wildlife, clean the air, offer welcome shade on hot days and help the park respond to a changing climate.
Yet tree cover in Brockwell Park remains relatively low, even for a London park. Many of its mature trees are also feeling the strain of hotter summers, increasingly unpredictable weather and the pressures of heavy use.
Our tree donation programme helps increase and renew the park's tree cover, with carefully selected species that complement its landscape, support wildlife and strengthen its natural habitats.
A programme with deep roots
The story of our tree planting programme goes back to the Great Storm of October 1987, when violent winds swept across southern England and brought down many trees in Brockwell Park.
The loss prompted Friends of Brockwell Park to take action to help restore and increase the park's tree cover. Our tree donation programme grew from that determination to ensure future generations could enjoy a greener, healthier park.
Nearly four decades later, the programme continues to bring together people who love Brockwell Park and want to make a lasting contribution to its future.
Donate a tree – for someone special, or simply for the park
Every donated tree makes a difference. Some are dedicated in memory of a loved one, others mark a birthday, anniversary or new beginning. Some are donated by families and friends, while others are simply a way of saying thank you to a park that means so much.
Whatever your reason, your tree will become part of Brockwell Park's living landscape, growing and changing with the seasons for years to come.
A donation of £425 covers the planting of your chosen tree, together with its care and watering for a minimum of three years, giving it the best possible chance to establish and thrive. Should a tree not fully establish during this period, it will be replaced.
Friends of Brockwell Park coordinates the tree donation programme, working closely with Lambeth Council's Tree Team, which selects suitable planting locations, plants the trees and provides their ongoing care during this establishment period. Together, we aim to increase tree cover, strengthen biodiversity and create a more resilient park for the future.
HOW TO DONATE A TREE
1. Contact our Tree Team
Get in touch with Laura, Antonia or Adam (are you happy with your names appearing here?) to let them know you're interested in donating a tree. They'll explain how the programme works and answer any questions you may have.
2. Find out which trees are available
Our team will share details of the trees available for dedication, including their species and locations within Brockwell Park.
Some trees may already have been planted, giving you the opportunity to visit them and see where they are growing before making your decision.
3. Choose the tree that's right for you
You might be drawn to a particular species, a favourite part of the park or simply a tree that feels right for the person or occasion you're celebrating.
4. Make your donation
Once you've chosen your tree, you'll be invited to make your £425 donation to Friends of Brockwell Park.
Your chosen tree will then be recorded as dedicated by you or to the person you wish to remember or celebrate.
5. Celebrate your tree
You'll be invited to join our annual Tree Celebration, where donors, families and friends gather in Brockwell Park to visit their trees.
During the celebration, you'll have the opportunity, if you wish, to share why you chose to donate or dedicate your tree.
Celebrating our trees and their stories
Every year, Friends of Brockwell Park organises a special Tree Celebration. It's an opportunity to visit the trees, meet fellow donors and share the personal stories behind the dedications.
At our July 2026 celebration, more than 80 people gathered to celebrate 16 donated trees from the 2025 and 2026 planting seasons. Guided by FoBP volunteers, donors visited their trees, shared stories and ceremonially untied ribbons alongside the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Paul Valentine.
These gatherings remind us that every tree is more than a new addition to the landscape. It can also be a place of remembrance, celebration and connection.
