BROCKWELL PARK ACCESSIBILTY MAP

In 2015, FoBP surveyed members and park-goers, revealing strong appreciation for Brockwell Park’s beauty and amenities, but nearly 50% of respondents felt it could be more accessible. In response, we produced a map in 2016 highlighting features valuable to people with mobility issues or special needs (see the FoBP website for a virtual copy).

This map is now being updated to include recent improvements, such as ramps to the restored Hall and café, a lift to the first floor, accessible toilets, and ramped access to the Community Greenhouses’ Barn, which also has a disabled toilet. A new bench between the lido and tennis courts now features a hard surface for wheelchair users – a small but significant addition.

However, since large walled events began in 2019, accessibility has suffered. Key footpaths are closed, benches fenced off, and high footfall makes it much harder for those with limited mobility to cross the park – whether for leisure, work, or access to shops and transport.

We hope Lambeth Council will factor accessibility into its event planning. If you’d like to contribute thoughts as we update the map, please get in touch by July 31st.
